The Principality of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein, with its neighbours Switzerland and Austria, is the fourth- smallest state in Europe. 11 communities, as well as Vaduz, the capital and Princely residence, are located on a surface area of 160 km2.
The form of government is a constitutional hereditary monarchy on a democratic and parliamentary basis. Since 1989, Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein has been the Liechtenstein Head of State, with state affairs being incumbent upon Prince Alois of Liechtenstein since 2004.
Liechtenstein as a financial centre offers security. The Banking Act of 1992 regulates, inter alia, personal and data protection as well as duties of non-disclosure. The Due Diligence Act offers the basis required to combat money laundering.
